Float - Modern Museum
Director of Architecture Professor: Jeffery Johnson - 2023
This project is working to address the modernity of art museums by working to revitalize the Los Angeles warehouse one. The studio prompt calls to revitalize one third of the abandoned warehouse producing a 150,000 SF art gallery. Using operational moves of a uniform voronoi ETFE wrap structure and large puncture atriums, the combination of elements produce dynamic sculpture galleries. The voronoi patterning was devleoped though a series of grasshopper scripts and is has a varies density in the short span of the building to create a structural wrap patterning.
The museum serves as a monument for the community by serving as an central hub, offering free or reduced-price admission to local areas and community groups. It can also provide open access to views and outreach initiatives to make art and culture accessible to underserved communities.
This project was completed in collaboration with Emma Cockerham and Austin Olah
Grasshopper script to quickly iterate the facade development of the voronoi patterning. This script was developed using grasshopper and weaverbird plug ins to create EFTE meshes.
